Sad news: Cristiano's little friend Nuhazet passed away
I read the sad news already, but without sources. So I hoped that it might not be true.
But now La Provincia, a newspaper from Las Palmas, reported about Nuhazet’s passing away. Rest in peace, little hero.
La Provincia, 16.03.2013 (my translation)
The relationship between CR7 and Nuhazet’s family is the story of love at first sight. The Real Madrid striker took over the cost of the treatment for the boy from Gran Canaria in the prestigious Hospital Montepríncipe in Madrid.
With only nine years of age, Nuhazet had to undergo surgery four times. In May 2012 he was diagnosed with spinal metastases. Physicians, given the seriousness of the situation, were very pessimistic. The only solution was an expensive treatment in a private medical center, with special personalized medication.
That was the moment Cristiano Ronaldo took over the expenses for that treatment, which appeared on the horizon as the only way of success.
The therapy should last one year, but sadly this week Nuhazet passed away and was buried yesterday (March 15th, 2013) at the cemetery of San Lazaro.
Silvestre Guardia, Nuhazet’s father, has witnessed the struggle and courage of an eternal heart. An example of pride that is still present.
The meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo 1 year ago was arranged by the ‘Asociación Pequeño Valiente’, founded 5 years ago by parents of children from the Oncology of the ‘Materno Infantil de Las Palmas de Gran Canariaof’ hospital.
Jorge Mendes, Cristiano’s agent and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez were also touched by Nuhazet’s human spirit.
An overdose of courage as the way to eternity. Nuhazet is the hero who touched the heart of the gladiator of goals.
MARCA article from June 2012 (my translation)
Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent, Jorge Mendes, are living these days, a story that was new to them until a month ago, but where both are now fully involved: Nuhazet’s story. A 9 years old boy from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, suffering from cancer since 7 years.
As reported by ‘eldigitald ecanarias.net’, the player and his agent decided to fund a new pioneering treatment for Nuhazet after the match between Real Madrid and Mallorca at the Bernabeu (13.05.2012).
Nuhazet attended the game on invitation of the “Asociación Pequeño Valiente”, assuming that this would be one of the last great adventures of his life.
Because there seemed to be no hope for the child, who has been battling cancer since 2005. Since then, three tumors were removes, although the last one, which was operated in October 2011, could only be partially removed. In March, an MRI revealed metastases in three different points of the spine.
His parents, Fabiola Guillén and Silvestre Guardia: “The doctor had discussed with colleagues and said that there was nothing more to do. That it was best to leave it as it is so that the child doesn’t have to suffer.
Asked if there was anything anywhere in the world, he said that whatever could be done was experimental. I sent the reports to “La Milagrosa” and the University of Navarra, and all the doctors told me I’d better not be more mortifying to the child. He already spent seven years with this disease, and we thought that we had come so far with him. “
The story reached the ears of Jorge Mendes, who paved the way to Cristiano Ronaldo. The morning of the match against Mallorca, he sent a driver to pick up the family and bring them to the team hotel. There, an elevator opened and there stood Cristiano. “Don’t you want to say anything?” Cristiano asked jokingly a stunned Nuhazet. And he promised that he would dedicate a goal to Nuhazet. Mission accomplished.
Nuhazet watched the game, and the winning of the Liga title from the private box of Cristiano, together with Irina Shayk.
Then they went down to the locker room area and Nuhazet received the jersey from the player. That already was a dream fulfilled. But there was more.
On the following Monday, Mendes and Florentino Perez called the parents to indicate a medical center, Sanchinarro. From there they went to the Montepríncipe hospital specialised in children. Nuhazet first set foot there on May 16th.
“We had three options: do nothing, take experimental tests and sending a biopsy to the U.S. to make a customized drug specially for Nuhazet”, said the father.
The family received the calculation for the treatment costs and the next day they were covered by a transfer of Cristiano and his agent. The boy went to the hospital that same Thursday evening and underwent a surgery of tumors of the cervical vertebrae. Then the biopsy was sent to the U.S.
Today, Nuhazet is still receiving treatment, although in a few weeks he could be back at home.
The child and his parents spend the time of waiting with observing the development of a dozen eggs put in an incubator into chicks. The chicks are baptised with the names of all persons who have accompanied them is this adventure.
The chick named Cristiano, first to break the shell, was born this morning.Beautiful gesture of humanity!
What a brave little boy! I wish him all the luck of the world.(if you use the article apart from tumblr please give me credit for the translation)
